Otello is an opera in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi to an Italian libretto by Arrigo Boito, based on Shakespeare's play Othello. It was Verdi's penultimate opera, and was first performed at the Teatro alla Scala, Milan, on February 5, 1887. The opera was first seen in the US at the Academy of Music in New York on 16 April 1888 and in the UK on 5 July 1889 in London. When it was given in Paris in October 1894, "Verdi composed a short ballet (which) forms part of the ceremony of welcome for the Venetian ambassadors in the Act 3 finale.[1] Since three leading roles of the opera (Desdemona, Iago and Otello) are among Verdi's most demanding, both vocally and dramatically, some of the most illustrious singers of the past 130 years have made Otello part of their repertoire. Famous Otellos of the past have included Tamagno, the role's trumpet-voiced creator, as well as Giovanni De Negri, Albert Alvarez, Francisco Viñas, Giuseppe Borgatti, Antonio Paoli, Giovanni Zenatello, Renato Zanelli, Giovanni Martinelli, Aureliano Pertile, Francesco Merli, Giacomo Lauri-Volpi, Frank Mullings, Leo Slezak, Jose Luccioni, Ramón Vinay, Mario del Monaco, James McCracken, Jon Vickers and Carlo Cossutta. Pre-Second World War Wagnerian tenors such as Jacques Urlus, Heinrich Knote, Alexander Kirchner, Lauritz Melchior and Franz Völker also undertook the part (usually singing it in German). The Russian heroic tenor Ivan Yershov was a renowned pre-World War One Otello in his native country. Enrico Caruso was studying Otello when he died unexpectedly in 1921, thus thwarting the New York Metropolitan Opera company's plans to stage the opera as a new vehicle for its star tenor. Currently, Plácido Domingo has appeared in more video productions of the opera than any other tenor. Also, he has recorded the complete role twice on CD. Domingo wrote about performing in the opera in his book My First Forty Years: As to the other question — that of singing roles that, according to self-proclaimed experts, we ought not to be singing — I have a little story to tell. When I decided to sing Otello, many people told me that I was crazy. Mario Del Monaco, they said, had had the proper kind of voice for the role, and my voice was nothing like his. Twenty years earlier, Del Monaco had been warned not to sing Otello because his voice was nothing like that of Ramon Vinay, who was then performing the opera all over the world. Vinay, of course, had heard that only a tenor with a piercing sound like Giovanni Martinelli's ought to sing the part. Some years earlier, Martinelli had had Antonin Trantoul, who had sung Otello at La Scala in the twenties, held up to him as a shining example; but at La Scala, those who still remembered the very first Otello, Francesco Tamagno, had found Trantoul completely unsatisfactory. But there exists a letter from Verdi to his publisher in the composer in which the composer makes it quite clear that Tamagno left a great deal to be desired. A long lineage of renowned baritones have sung Iago since 1887. Among them: Victor Maurel (the role's first exponent), Mattia Battistini, Mario Ancona, Antonio Scotti, Titta Ruffo, Pasquale Amato, Carlo Galeffi and Lawrence Tibbett. Leading post-war exponents of the part have included Giuseppe Valdengo, Leonard Warren, Robert Merrill, Tito Gobbi, Sherrill Milnes and James Morris. As for Desdemona, too many top-class lyric sopranos to list here have undertaken the role since 1887.

If I was to vote today which artist has improved the most in the last 10 years, Ricky Martin would be at or near the top of my list. The growth and performance maturity he has shown since 2000 when he released his first self titled English album to the American market has been phenomenal. After the release and subsequent tour Ricky just seemed to disappear off the radar of the American pop charts. He however was quite busy with the Latin American market releasing two albums, one in 2001, and another in 2003. The former “La Historia” and the latter "Almas del Silencio" went to number one on the Latin American pop charts, the first for five weeks, and the second for more than twelve weeks. In 2005 Martin released his second English language album entitled “Sound Loaded”, his tenth album of his career. In 2007 he began an international tour titled “Blanco Y Negro”, which brings us to the night of August 10th and 11th of 2007 at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum in Puerto Rico, where Enrique Martin Morales got on stage and laid it down for this Bluray disc release. Did you know that Queen's singer, Paul Rodgers, used to play in this '70s band called Bad Company? Turns out they were pretty good too. On August 8, 2008, Rodgers took time off from his "regular" gig and reunited with the two other Bad Company founding members, Simon Kirke (drums), and Mick Ralphs (guitar), for a nostalgic 90-minute set at the Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida. Original Bad Company bassist, Boz Burrell, passed away in 2006, so the band was augmented this night by Rodger's solo tour bassist, Lynn Sorensen, as well as former Heart guitarist, Howard Leese. If you are a Paul Rodgers fan then feel free to get this DVD just for him. The man is an ageless wonder who, 58 at the time, still looks and sings like he his twenty years younger. Fans of the classic Bad Company line-up will surely be pleased to see Mick Ralphs back in the fold after all of the offshoot lineups this band has performed under since Rodgers quite back in 1982. Ralphs comes out Les Paul's ablazin' and looks like he is having the time of his life up there on stage again as they treat the 5000-plus capacity crowd to raucous 16-song set of all the old blues-rock classics he helped to write way back when. Rodger's has been up front in admitting that this reunion was essentially to protect the band's legacy and to cement the rights to the trademark Bad Company name for future tours. That's cool with me, but I'd still like to see some new material before any future tours. The setlist is comprised entirely from the five albums Bad Company released on Led Zeppelin's brand new Swan Song record label between 1974 and 1979. The band's self-titled debut album was by far their best effort, and they wisely performed six of the album's eight original tracks this night. The concert starts appropriately with Rodgers playing the opening keyboard riff to "Bad Company" on a black grand piano at center stage, as tons of dry ice swirls around his feet to set the mood. "That's why they call me...DUHT, DUHT, DAHHH....Baaaad Company!," kicks the song into overdrive, and the crowd into classic rock heaven. Look, I am not saying that watching this Bad Company reunion concert was the equivalent of a Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd reunion, but it was pretty damn special if you are old fart like myself who can remember when their debut album dominated the airwaves, and can still sing most of the lyrics by heart. The band didn't screw around when putting together this set list either, as it features all of their best known songs from their best known albums. No deep cuts to be found here - although the Boz Burrell-penned "Gone Gone Gone," from '79s Desolation Angels album, was a pleasant surprise. The companion CD makes for the perfect best of Bad Company compilation - albeit it is live. The band doesn't take too many liberties with the studio versions of these songs other than to throw in a few extended jam sections here and there, most notably with the killer version of "Ready For Love" during the encore set. The production quality was good overall especially the audio tracks. Both DTS and Dolby Digital 5.0 surround are featured as well as a Dolby stereo track. The guitars were crunchy and right in your face, just the way I like it, and the mixes sounded excellent. The video was shot in high definition but suffered from some color smearing, blurriness, and other video noise problems. The blue isle lighting in the theater almost looked like some kind of enhanced special affect due to these problems. The camera work was excellent, however. Unfortunately the only special feature is the short promo that was released for the DVD. A band interview certainly could have been interesting, considering the long and storied history of this band. The DVD includes a companion CD of the same set. Bad Company is currently touring the UK and Paul Rodgers will be doing a solo tour of the US this summer. I'm not sure what the future holds for Bad Company, but based on this excellent DVD, I think they've got a few good year left in them if they decide to stick together for a while. Track list: 1. Qlimax is an annual event held by the Dutch entertainment enterprise, Q-Dance. It is considered one of the leading hardstyle events on the calendar and a major attraction of Q-Dance and contains some of the most sophisticated production and setup for any event. In the beginning, Qlimax used to have several editions every year. But since 2004, it was changed to be held annually in the third or fourth week of November. At first it was held at the Beursgebouw (Eindhoven) and then moved to various other venues such as the SilverDome (Zoetermeer) and Heineken Music Hall (Amsterdam), but has made its home at the Gelredome (Arnhem). Many artists consider being chosen to play at Qlimax a highlight as the event is used to showcase the most successful artists in their respective genre. The beginning saw the lineup featuring genres ranging from hardhouse to techno. This was changed to traditionally begin with one hardtrance act, one jumpstyle act, numerous hardstyle acts and then finish off with one hardcore/gabber act. This was changed in 2008 with the removal of the jumpstyle act and in 2009 with the replacement of the hardtrance act to one playing early hardstyle. Qlimax (2009): D-Block & S-te-Fan - The Nature Of Our Mind D-Block & S-te-Fan (Diederik Bakker and Stefan den Daas) are two hardstyle artists from The Netherlands. They started co-producing in 2004. Bakker grew up with his father producing electronic music, which allowed him to learn musical skills very early in his childhood. Daas' inspiration comes from Happy Hardcore, which he was a large fan of in the 1990s. When they started to work as a team, they already performed at events such as Qlimax, DefQon 1, Thrillogy, and Q-Base. Originally, they owned their own label,"Next Chapter Records", however they were signed on with Scantraxx and now own their own Scantraxx sub label, Scantraxx Evolutionz. Bakker and Daas performed the musical anthem to Qlimax 2009, called "The Nature Of Our Mind". This was several months after their first album, Music Made Addictz, was released. D-Block & S-te-Fan have had several collaborations with M.C. Villan , Deepack, and DJ Coone. They also did a remix of the Headhunterz & Wildstylez track "Blame it on the Music," which was featured on Headhunterz' 2010 Studio Sessions album.

Live at Sturgis 2006 is a live concert DVD filmed by Canadian rock band, Nickelback. It is the band's first live DVD since 2002's release of Live at Home. The DVD was released exclusively at Walmart stores on December 2, 2008. The concert was filmed in 2006 in Sturgis, South Dakota during the tour supporting their album All the Right Reasons. The concert was at the Sturgis 2006 “Rockin’ The Rally” Show at the Sturgis Bike Rally. Filmed in Hi Definition by 15 cameras, there was a crowd of 35,000 attending the performance. The DVD was meant to be released in December 2007, but was delayed to coincide with the release of their album Dark Horse which had come out in November 18, 2008, a year later. George Michael, born as Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou (Greek: Γεώργιος Κυριάκος Παναγιώτου; 25 June 1963), is an English singer-songwriter who rose to fame in the 1980s when he formed the pop duo Wham! along with his school friend Andrew Ridgeley. His first solo single, "Careless Whisper" was released when he was still in the duo and sold about six million copies worldwide. This is the first live concert movie from George Michael. He also says it will be the only one he ever releases. If that's true, it's a fine record to leave behind of his 2006/2007 "25 Live Tour." I saw him twice myself on that tour and it was spectacular. I saw him once indoors and once outdoors and the vast screen and lighting behind him looked far better indoors in the dark. This concert was recorded indoors at Earls Court in London in August 2007. George is in fine voice throughout and does some surprising cover versionsin particular an excellent version of Nina Simone's "Feelin' Good." All his greatest hits are here including "Faith" "Careless Whisper" and "Outside" and old Wham! favourites like "I'm Your Man" and "Everything She Wants." There's some fascinating backstage footage between songs showing him towelling off, doing costume changes and using obscene amounts of hairspray before running back on to thrill the crowd. George is exhausted by the end but he gives it his all and you won't be disappointed when you see this show. It's great entertainment from start to finish.
