Black Snake Moan is a 2006 film written and directed by Craig Brewer. It was filmed in and around Stanton, Tennessee, and stars Samuel L. Jackson, Christina Ricci, and Justin Timberlake.

The title of the film derives from the 1927 Blind Lemon Jefferson song, while the plot, as confirmed by director Brewer in the commentary to the DVD of the film, is loosely based on George Eliot's 1861 novel Silas Marner. The film draws numerous references to the Mississippi Blues movement, not least in its title and soundtrack.

Corpse Bride (often known as Tim Burton's Corpse Bride) is a 2005 musical stop-motion-animation fantasy film directed by Mike Johnson and Tim Burton. It is set in a fictional Victorian era village in Britain. Johnny Depp led an all-star cast as the voice of Victor, while Helena Bonham Carter (for whom the project was specially created) voiced Emily, the title character.

The film was nominated in the 78th Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature, but was bested by Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. On a technical level it was shot with a battery of Canon EOS-1D Mark II digital SLRs, rather than the 35mm film cameras used for Burton's previous stop-motion film The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Bắt đầu khởi chiếu từ tháng 9 năm ngoái, "Glee" đã hớp hồn khán giả Mỹ và nhanh chóng trở thành một trong những drama thành công nhất ở kinh đô điện ảnh thế giới. Xem ra "High School Musical" có đối thủ cạnh tranh cực kỳ nặng ký rồi.
“Glee đã khởi đầu như thế nào?” Đây có lẽ là thắc mắc cơ bản và phổ biến nhất. Chắc chắn rằng rất nhiều khán giả cho rằng bộ phim chỉ là sản phẩm ăn theo của High School Musical. Nhận định ấy hoàn toàn hợp lý, bởi vì từ phong cách, nội dung cho đến ý nghĩa, cả hai TV series đều có nhiều điểm giống nhau. Thế nhưng, nhà sáng tạo Ryan Murphy của Glee đã xóa tan hoài nghi này khi chia sẻ với báo chí rằng: “Tôi chưa hề xem một tập High School Musical nào cả.”

Ông lấy cảm hứng chủ yếu từ thời gian tham gia văn nghệ thời phổ thông và tác phẩm điện ảnh âm nhạc nổi tiếng Chicago. Do đó, nếu đã xem qua Glee (và tất nhiên là cả HSM), các bạn sẽ thấy các diễn viên không tự nhiên nổi hứng hòa giọng ngay tại căn-tin hay giữa trận bóng rổ. Họ hát và trình diễn trên sân khấu, trong câu lạc bộ như chúng ta vẫn thường làm để ủng hộ cho hoạt động văn nghệ mà trường tổ chức.

Vậy thì có gì hấp dẫn nhỉ? Hấp dẫn là ở chỗ nó đem lại cho khán giả cảm giác thực tế, chứ không tô màu hồng lên toàn bộ cuộc sống. Vì vậy, bạn sẽ dễ dàng tìm thấy chính mình trong một vấn đề rất teen và rất đời nào đó của Glee. Chưa hết, ý tưởng về một nhóm nhạc tự lập của các cô cậu học sinh đang trong độ tuổi theo đuổi ước mơ đã hoàn toàn chinh phục những nhà soạn nhạc kỳ cựu ở Mỹ. Rất nhiều người trong số đó đã hiến tặng sáng tác của mình cho series mà chẳng đòi tiền bản quyền. Thậm chí, diva Madonna còn cho Glee quyền sử dụng toàn bộ nhạc của bà. Kết quả chính là Glee có hẳn một tập phim hoành tráng đong đầy những giai điệu huyền thoại của nữ hoàng nhạc pop.

Sức mạnh của Glee như được chắp thêm cánh khi seri bắt đầu “oanh tạc” trên khung giờ vàng của FOX, nơi chương trình thực tế ảnh hưởng nhất hành tinh, American Idol, khiến hàng triệu trái tim phải thổn thức hàng năm. Và sau ½ season đầu, Glee đã chính thức trở thành một hiện tượng văn hóa mới trong giới trẻ. Rất nhiều thanh thiếu niên Mỹ đã quay lại cảnh họ tự hát rồi gửi lên YouTube với mong muốn được nhà sản xuất phim chú ý. Hàng trăm nhạc sĩ đã liên tục gọi điện làm phiền Ryan Murphy với hi vọng Glee sẽ là cầu nối đưa những sáng tác của họ đến với công chúng. Để rồi vào ngày 17.01.2010, Glee đã cán đích thành công khi nhận giải Quả Cầu Vàng ở hạng mục TV Series Hài – Âm Nhạc Xuất Sắc Nhất Năm, bên cạnh ba đề cử diễn viên sáng giá cho “nàng sơn ca chảnh chọe” Lea Michele, thầy dạy tiếng Tây Ban Nha mê hát Matthew Morrison và nữ huấn luyện hoạt náo viên hắc ám Jane Lynch

Tuy nhiên, sức quyến rũ của Glee không hoàn toàn nằm ở ánh hào quang nghệ thuật. Như đã trình bày ở trên, Glee khắc họa khá chân thật tâm lý tình cảm của những cô cậu thanh niên tuổi mới lớn. Tuy bối cảnh được đặt tại một trường phổ thông hạng trung ở tận bang Ohio, Hoa Kỳ nhưng cũng giống như hầu hết các bạn trẻ trên toàn thế giới, những nhân vật trong Glee đều đang trải qua nhiều vướng mắc về bản thân. Họ cũng chui vào một góc để tự kỷ, cũng tò mò về trái cấm tình yêu, cũng lo sợ cho tương lai và cũng khao khát được cha mẹ, bạn bè yêu thương chăm sóc.

Ngoài ra, ý nghĩa của phim còn nhằm vào những nhân vật ngồi chiếu dưới, thấp cổ bé họng trong xã hội như người tàn tật, da màu, đồng tính… Chính vì thế ban nhạc New Direction trong Glee là một tập hợp của các bạn trẻ chịu nhiều thiệt thòi về hạn chế cơ thể, sinh lý và bi kịch gia đình. Để rồi qua sự trưởng thành của họ, các nhà làm phim muốn khuyên nhủ chúng ta nên biết cố gắng phấn đấu vì ước mơ, đừng bỏ cuộc cho dù bạn thuộc phe thất bại.

Không dừng tại mức giáo dục nhân cách trên màn ảnh nhỏ, Glee còn đem “mặt trận” của mình ra ngoài xã hội mà nóng bỏng nhất hiện tại là sự kiện chàng diễn viên đồng tính Jonathan Groff (trong vai Jesse St. James) bị báo Newsweek chỉ trích vì nhận đóng vai người dị tính. Nhà sản xuất Ryan Murphy đã kịch liệt phản đối quan điểm lạc hậu, sặc mùi phân biệt ấy bằng nhiều hoạt động ủng hộ bình đẳng giới.

Stephen Hawking sắp xuất bản cuốn sách mới nhất mang tên “The Grand Design”, CNN cho hay. Mục đích của tác phẩm là loại bỏ vai trò của thánh thần ra khỏi vật lý, đồng thời giải đáp những câu hỏi cơ bản nhất về sự sống, vũ trụ và mọi thứ. Trong một đoạn trích được đăng trên tạp chí Times của Anh, Hawking cho rằng con người không cần nhắc tới những thế lực thần thánh để giải thích sự hình thành của vũ trụ.

“Do sự tồn tại hiển nhiên của những quy luật vật lý, chẳng hạn như lực hấp dẫn, vũ trụ có thể và sẽ tiếp tục tự tạo ra nó từ hư không. Sự hình thành tự phát của vũ trụ là lý do khiến vũ trụ và con người tồn tại. Vì thế đưa Chúa vào quá trình hình thành của vũ trụ là việc không cần thiết”, Hawking viết trong cuốn sách.

Telegraph cho biết, trong cuốn “A Brief History of Time” (Lược sử thời gian) – tác phẩm nổi tiếng nhất của Hawking và được phát hành vào năm 1988 – vị giáo sư không hề bác bỏ khả năng Chúa tham gia vào quá trình tạo ra vũ trụ.

Nhưng trong cuốn sách mới, ông bác bỏ giả thuyết của nhà khoa học thiên tài Isaac Newton về việc Chúa tạo ra vũ trụ. Newton từng cho rằng một vị thần hay thánh nào đó đã tác động để trái đất trở thành nơi duy nhất có đầy đủ mọi điều kiện thích hợp đối với sự sống.

Năm 1992, các nhà thiên văn tìm thấy nhiều hệ hành tinh bên ngoài hệ Mặt Trời. Phát hiện đó trái ngược với một lập luận cơ bản của Newton. Hawking lý giải rằng, do vũ trụ có vô số thiên hà và mỗi thiên hà có vô số hành tinh nên rất có thể trái đất không phải là nơi duy nhất có sự sống. Thậm chí vũ trụ của chúng ta đang tồn tại cùng nhiều vũ trụ khác. Những vũ trụ kia cũng có những quy luật vật lý giống như vũ trụ của chúng ta, nghĩa là chúng cũng được tạo ra từ hư không, chứ không phải bởi bàn tay của Chúa.

Hồi tháng 6 giáo sư Hawking phát biểu trên kênh truyền hình Channel 4 rằng ông không tin Chúa thực sự tồn tại. Ông đặt ra câu hỏi: “Vũ trụ bắt đầu theo ý muốn của Chúa hay nhờ một quy luật khoa học?”. Sau đó ông tự trả lời: “Tôi tin vào yếu tố thứ hai. Nếu thích, các bạn có thể gọi quy luật khoa học là Chúa, song đó không phải là vị Chúa mà chúng ta có thể gặp và đặt câu hỏi”.

Stephen Hawking được coi là ông hoàng vật lý lý thuyết của thế giới trong suốt nhiều thập kỷ qua. Ông nổi tiếng với những công trình nghiên cứu về hố đen trong vũ trụ. Hawking cũng từng nỗ lực theo đuổi mục tiêu tìm ra một “lý thuyết thống nhất” để giải quyết các mâu thuẫn giữa thuyết tương đối của Albert Einstein và thuyết lượng tử. Hawking từng giữ vị trí giáo sư toán Lucasian tại Đại học Cambridge, Anh. Đây cũng là chức danh mà Newton từng đảm nhiệm. Ông hoàng vật lý nghỉ hưu năm ngoái.

Cuốn sách “The Grand Design” sẽ được phát hành vào ngày 7/9 tại Mỹ và ngày 9/9 tại Anh. Leonard Mlodinow, một nhà vật lý Mỹ, là đồng tác giả của cuốn sách.

Otello is an opera in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi to an Italian libretto by Arrigo Boito, based on Shakespeare's play Othello. It was Verdi's penultimate opera, and was first performed at the Teatro alla Scala, Milan, on February 5, 1887.

The opera was first seen in the US at the Academy of Music in New York on 16 April 1888 and in the UK on 5 July 1889 in London. When it was given in Paris in October 1894, "Verdi composed a short ballet (which) forms part of the ceremony of welcome for the Venetian ambassadors in the Act 3 finale.[1]

Since three leading roles of the opera (Desdemona, Iago and Otello) are among Verdi's most demanding, both vocally and dramatically, some of the most illustrious singers of the past 130 years have made Otello part of their repertoire. Famous Otellos of the past have included Tamagno, the role's trumpet-voiced creator, as well as Giovanni De Negri, Albert Alvarez, Francisco Viñas, Giuseppe Borgatti, Antonio Paoli, Giovanni Zenatello, Renato Zanelli, Giovanni Martinelli, Aureliano Pertile, Francesco Merli, Giacomo Lauri-Volpi, Frank Mullings, Leo Slezak, Jose Luccioni, Ramón Vinay, Mario del Monaco, James McCracken, Jon Vickers and Carlo Cossutta. Pre-Second World War Wagnerian tenors such as Jacques Urlus, Heinrich Knote, Alexander Kirchner, Lauritz Melchior and Franz Völker also undertook the part (usually singing it in German). The Russian heroic tenor Ivan Yershov was a renowned pre-World War One Otello in his native country.

Enrico Caruso was studying Otello when he died unexpectedly in 1921, thus thwarting the New York Metropolitan Opera company's plans to stage the opera as a new vehicle for its star tenor. Currently, Plácido Domingo has appeared in more video productions of the opera than any other tenor. Also, he has recorded the complete role twice on CD.

Domingo wrote about performing in the opera in his book My First Forty Years:

As to the other question — that of singing roles that, according to self-proclaimed experts, we ought not to be singing — I have a little story to tell. When I decided to sing Otello, many people told me that I was crazy. Mario Del Monaco, they said, had had the proper kind of voice for the role, and my voice was nothing like his. Twenty years earlier, Del Monaco had been warned not to sing Otello because his voice was nothing like that of Ramon Vinay, who was then performing the opera all over the world. Vinay, of course, had heard that only a tenor with a piercing sound like Giovanni Martinelli's ought to sing the part. Some years earlier, Martinelli had had Antonin Trantoul, who had sung Otello at La Scala in the twenties, held up to him as a shining example; but at La Scala, those who still remembered the very first Otello, Francesco Tamagno, had found Trantoul completely unsatisfactory. But there exists a letter from Verdi to his publisher in the composer in which the composer makes it quite clear that Tamagno left a great deal to be desired.

A long lineage of renowned baritones have sung Iago since 1887. Among them: Victor Maurel (the role's first exponent), Mattia Battistini, Mario Ancona, Antonio Scotti, Titta Ruffo, Pasquale Amato, Carlo Galeffi and Lawrence Tibbett. Leading post-war exponents of the part have included Giuseppe Valdengo, Leonard Warren, Robert Merrill, Tito Gobbi, Sherrill Milnes and James Morris. As for Desdemona, too many top-class lyric sopranos to list here have undertaken the role since 1887.

Register / unregister to the context menu for .dll files
